March 5th Prayer Meeting at College Church

There will be a Powerpoint presentation and a few words from some of the team members about the Men's International Mission Costa Rica missions trip The location for the meeting will be in the Commons building at College Church.
On Wednesday night at 7pm on March the 5th.
Between 7:05 and 7:30 will be the time slot.

Work Day 6

Our last day was another busy one. The Formica was put on the PC cabinets. Also the last cabinet was put together. The driver had some holes filled in with concrete. More painting was done to the inside and outside of the buildings.
We again thank you for your prayers . All the thing that were accomplished could not have been possible with the help of our prayer worriers and the Holy Spirit.
The team will leave the school at 6:30 and arrive in Chicago around 4:55.
Pray for a problem free departure and a safe return.

Work Day 5

Work day 5 we made some concrete to finish off what wasn't finished yesterday. Concrete blocks were moved from a pile and placed around the foundation. The blocks will be placed two high all the way around. The floor for the building has the double rebar, a layer of concrete that covered the rebar. Then there will be a layer of gravel, which will have the electrical and plumbing. On top of the gravel will be another layer of concrete. There was more painting and PC cabinet building.
Tonight we will visit downtown San Jose and go out to dinner.
One more day of work and back home to cold Illinois. Today is warm 84 degrees.

Work Day 4

Today at 12 noon the concrete trucks started to roll in. Eight trucks came into the school today. There was a lot of hard work moving the concrete around after the unloading of the concrete. More paainting was also accomplished today. More PC cabinets were made. More work on the grounds and anything else that needed to be done. Everything is going well so far. Wally<><

Work Day 3

Today was another productive day. More painting outside and inside. Even the flag pole got painted. More PC cabinets were made. A concrete ramp was completed. I think it took 40 wheel barrels to finish. Somebody figured out that 15,000 tie wraps were used for the rebar construction. Racking of leaves was a big project. The picture is of Matt Befus, Natalia the younest and Matt's mother Elenora. Our 2nd and last day off will be a trip to the ocean in Jaco. Lisa Befus should be arriving around 10pm tonight from Wheaton. Everything else seems to be doing fine. Wally<><

Work Day 2

We had another beautiful day today and accomplished more painting, more cabinet building, more plumbing, more rebar construction, picture murals and side jobs. The rebar work is almost finished. There will be 7 cement truck at the school on Thursday morning. The painting is endless and there will always be something to paint. Our night out for dinner will be at the world famous "Chicken-Lick'n" down the street. Chicken cooked over coffee root wood. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm so good.
Everyone is healthy and we covet your prayer. Our morning devotion from 6:300 to 7:00is what gives us a great kick off to start out the morning seeking the Lord first. Our evening devotions are from 8:00 to 8:30. We are a little tired, but we hve some really good discussions and then eventually go to bed.
We finally got our leader to do some work. Harry did not paint the picture of Jesus. Thanks Harry.

Day Off

In the past we have tried to go there for a visit and it rained. Today was a crystal clear day. On the way back we stopped at a waterfall-butterfly park. The park has buildings with birds, snake, frogs, plants, and a waterfall. While walking around the park it make you think about God's creation of this world. All of this did not happen by chance. We ended the day at the International Baptist Church where the Befus family goes to, which finished off this beautiful day.

Back to work on Monday praying that a lot of work gets accomplished.

Work Day

A lot was accomplished on our 1st work day. From painting, plumbing, building cabinets for the computer room, more rebar work for the Kindergarten foundation and paintings on some of the outside walls. One of the murals is of Jesus the Good Shepard and the other is with Jesus and children. In the picture Jim is looking for the water shut of for the English teachers house. A bathroom sink will be replaced with vanity. The water pipe behind the wall is broken and has to be replaced. Have a great Sunday. Both teams will go to the 5pm service (in English) where the Befus family go. Sometimes we sing in front of the congregation?

Arrival and Rebar

All went well with travel today. Thank you for all your prayers. All plane departures went very smooth and we landed in San Jose around 1:15pm. Matt met us at the airport with Walter and we all headed down to the school. The rebar work looks like it it going really strong in what was accomplished in two day. Thursday everything needs to be ready for the concrete trucks. Hope to get a good night sleep for a busy work day on Saturday.

Costa Rica

HYACKS

At College Church the High school youth group is called (HYACKs).

Tonight the group of 11 from Costa Rica were introducing themselves to everyone.
They will be in Wheaton for 3 weeks. Each student is living with families from College Church.

In Costa Rica the 10th graders are Juniors and the 11th graders are Seniors.

Last Team Meeting

Had our last meeting before we depart on Friday. We opened with prayer. Wes tested the group on our singing abilities. We were given singing homework assignments to give you an idea how well we sang. On Sunday we will probably sing in church at the 6pm service. Hopefully the Colorado group will drown the Wheaton group out. Robert and Jeremy are already at the school and painting the inside of the old Kindergarten school. The Wheaton group will be staying in that building during our time their.

Lisa Befus visited our meeting with two of the English teachers from the school. They are in Wheaton with 11 students from La Palabra de Vida school. They will be with families from College Church for the next three weeks. They will be going to Wheaton Academy during the day and will be visiting Chicago and they probably will try some skying, sleding or just building a snowman, whenever it snows again. Pray that they stay warm and remain healthy during their stay. Right now in San Jose the temperature ranges from 77 during the day and maybe 59 at night.

Josh and Christy Meyer were also at the meeting. They will be going down to Costa Rica in March for Spanish studies. January 2009 they will be English teachers at La Palabra de Vida school.

Our meeting went well and a lot was accomplish. We will be leaving College Church at 3:30 am on Friday 6:05 flight. We arrive in Atlanta at 9:06. We depart at 10:01 to San Jose. Please pray that the 55 minutes between landing and getting on the other plane goes well. No missing luggage or team members. We are suppose to arrive in San Jose at 1:00 pm.

Jan 11-20

On January 11th - January 20th a group of 15 from Wheaton, Illinois and 22 from Colorado will serve on a Men's International Missions short term mission trip to Costa Rica.

The La Palabra de Vida School has approximately 350 students from Kindergarten to High School. The supported missionaries at the school are Matt and Lisa Befus with their four daughters, Lindsey, Lynnea, Katrina, and Natalia.

This year's projects will consist of working on the new Kindergarten building. Rebar, concrete, pre-electrical and plumbing work will be one of our main goals to complete while we are there for the week We will also have painting projects for the classrooms and wall mural paintings around the school grounds. The new school year starts in February.
